private hospitals are forced to turn away twice as many ambulances as two years ago.

stance on refugees has drawn a protest by Amnesty International. Some Labor MPs argued
at a party meeting that refugees should have been treated more humanely.
Page 3 - A senior judge believes the extent of sexual assault in jail is hidden. Monash
University scores US stem cell funding. Ansett will increase all economy class fares by
six per cent today.
World - East Timorese urged to remain calm with elections due tomorrow. Israel says
assassinations are not inflaming the Middle East conflict. Iraq claims to have downed
an unmanned US spy plane.
Finance - AMP and NAB deny plans for merger. Foster's records net profit of $465.2
million - up 8.7 per cent. Westfield Holdings shares rose yesterday by $3.42 to $18.12.
Sport - Australian golf tour will become year-round - jumping from 10 to 25 tournaments.
West Coast coach Ken Judge will keep his job. AFL Tribunal suspends Essendon's Paul Barnard,
Kangaroo Wayne Carey and St Kilda's Jason Traianidis for one match each.
