A Street man enraged by the driving of another motorist used hiscar keys to scratch the other man's car, causing Pounds 874.88 worthof damage.
At Frome magistrates' court last week, Christopher Hannam, 55, ofPortland Road, Street, admitted damaging a Mitsubishi owned by LeeAyres.
Crown prosecutor Christine Hart said Mr Ayres claimed he had been"almost cut up" by Hannam's Citroen Picasso as he drove from Wellsto Street at 5pm on Thursday, May 6.
She said Mr Ayres had parked on the High Street in Street, andhad seen Hannam park close by.
"Mr Ayres heard the rattle of keys as he went to his father'shouse, five minutes away," said Miss Hart.
"When he returned to his car, he saw that damage had been done tothe bodywork with a key, and there were three scratches."
The police were called, and Hannam was later arrested andinterviewed.
Miss Hart said that he had at first denied causing any damage toMr Ayres' car, but CCTV footage was produced that showed himscratching the parked car.
Addressing the magistrates himself, Hannam said he had first seenMr Ayres' car when it had overtaken his as they approached aroundabout on the outskirts of Wells.
"I saw him overtaking several cars in front of me, and he wasdriving very erratically," said Hannam. "By the B&Q roundabout atGlastonbury I saw him again trying to force his way into a queue oftraffic," he said.
He later saw the same car parked near him when he got to Street, and said he felt "very incensed" by the way it had been driven.
He described his behaviour as "a spur of the moment thing", andadmitted that he should have reported the incident to police ratherthan damaging the car.
He said he was a health and safety consultant within the eventsindustry, and often had long periods out of work. He was finedPounds 65 and a Pounds 15 victim surcharge, and ordered to payPounds 500 compensation to Mr Ayres to cover the loss of his noclaims bonus on his insurance.
The rest of the cost of the damage was covered by the insurancecompany.
