Hbl: France defeat Iceland to take men's handball title

BEIJING, Aug 24 DPA - France beat Iceland 28-23 to win the men's handball Olympic gold
medal in the final event of the Beijing Games today.

It was the first Olympic medal for the French since they won bronze in Barcelona in 1992.

Iceland's silver was the Nordic country's best ever placing in Olympic handball competition.

Bronze went to Spain, which defeated Croatia 35-29 in the match for third place.
